FX and Hulu are back with their newest mini-series starring powerhouse actor, Steve Carell. “The Patient” is a dramatic thriller in which a therapist played by Steve Carell is held prisoner by one of his patients, who reveals himself to be a serial killer. In the season of October and Halloween, I decided to watch it and while I hate to say it, the best part of was waiting each week to see what would happen next. The overall suspense of waiting to watch each Tuesday was the only factor that had me watching, other than Steve Carell’s phenomenal acting.
“The Patient” is a 6.6 out of 10 and unfortunately shouldn’t be anywhere on your watch list. I didn’t hate it and I don’t regret watching it, but I would never recommend the 7 hours of watch time especially now that the entire series is available to binge-watch. There are so many better shows on FX and Hulu right now and are even better shows and movies with Steve Carell that you should watch instead. I’d recommend watching “Beautiful Boy” or “The Morning Show” if you are looking for your Steve Carell fix. If you do sit down to watch it, you’ll enjoy the suspense of the show, along with great acting performances. I appreciate the originality of the plot and the small plot twists throughout the show, but “The Patient” fell short where it matters and doesn’t do enough to make it worth the watch.
