Independent Doesn’t Mean Doing It Alone
For years, independent artists have been sold a specific version of success: keep ownership, avoid labels and build your career entirely on your own. The first two parts make sense. Artists should understand their rights, protect their work and think carefully before signing away ownership. But somewhere along the way, independence became confused with isolation. Being independent does not mean you must personally handle every release date, music video, email, advertisement, playlist pitch, merchandise order, press contact and analytics report.
