Ron’s Gone Wrong Movie Review

As we finally started to get great movies in the theaters towards the end of 2021, a few movies fell to the wayside of box office hits like Dune and Spider-Man. One of which is the gem of a movie “Ron’s Gone Wrong.” Kids movies and the studios that create them have been following a trend of trying to “modernize” animated films by incorporating plot points based on technology and the current world we live in. Unfortunately, a lot of these films have been coming off corny and are poorly made, like the 2021 film “Mitchell’s vs. the Machines.” Luckily for me, “Ron’s Gone Wrong” doesn’t fall into that unspectacular trend. While the first 10-15 minutes left me skeptical, the overall movie is done tastefully and is extremely enjoyable. With voice acting from Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justice Smith, Rob Delaney, Kylie Cantrall, Ricardo Hurtado, and Olivia Colman, you won’t be disappointed if you watch it.

“Ron’s Gone Wrong” is a heartfelt and adventurous 8.3 out of 10 and is one of the best animated/kids movies of the year. It’s a lively and sometimes hilarious animated adventure film that tells a meaningful story of friendship. “Ron’s Gone Wrong” is both a celebration and a critique of the power of technology and its impact on our lives. The film does a great job of showing the benefits of technology and phone usage, while also giving strong messages of why social media, technology, and the internet can be unhealthy. It shines a light on the superficial nature of social media and how it amplifies bullying and insecurities, especially among the young people for whom it serves as a lifeline. Kids or no kids, throw this on for them and I guarantee you’ll love it. It has some of the most adult themed jokes and comedy I’ve seen in a kids movie and is overall just a well made film that will make you laugh, tear up, and be happy you watched.
