Vxiid is learning that healing does not always feel peaceful. On his new single “Journey,” arriving August 26, the emerging artist confronts the pain that follows personal growth and the quiet realization that he is no longer the person he used to be.
“Journey” is the first single from vxiid’s upcoming six-song EP, Pursuing Peace. Produced by vxiid and 80root, the record introduces the emotional and visual language behind the larger project: wet pavement, empty roads, purple skies and solitary moments caught somewhere between darkness and daylight.
Where much of vxiid’s earlier music placed listeners directly inside the pain, “Journey” creates enough distance to look back at it. The song does not erase the sadness that shaped him or present healing as a finished process. Instead, it captures the moment he recognizes that progress has already begun.
“A lot of my earlier work was focused on being stuck in the pain, but this song is about seeing something beyond it,” vxiid says. “It’s not just about where I’ve been. It’s about finally being able to see where I’m going.”
That shift is summarized in the song’s defining lyric: “It’s funny how healing hurts, but I’ve found the light at last.”
The line rejects the polished version of healing that is often presented as an immediate breakthrough. For vxiid, growth meant confronting experiences he would have rather avoided and accepting how deeply they affected him. The light did not appear because everything changed overnight. It became visible once he realized how far he had already traveled.
Sonically, “Journey” occupies the space between alternative rock, shoegaze and emotionally driven melodic music. Its production remains hazy and atmospheric without burying the writing beneath excess. Repetition throughout the verses and chorus gives the song a stream-of-consciousness quality, as if vxiid is walking through his thoughts in real time.
The arrangement follows the same emotional progression as the lyrics. It begins in uncertainty, carrying the weight of sadness and self-reflection, before gradually revealing a sense of hope underneath it. The destination remains unclear, but the movement is undeniable.
Vxiid and 80root intentionally left room for that emotion to breathe. Rather than chasing a perfectly polished record, they protected the imperfections that made the song feel human.
“The challenge was being honest about growth without making it sound like I have everything figured out,” vxiid explains. “There’s still sadness and uncertainty in the song. That was important to keep.”
The cover artwork extends that idea through a simple image of vxiid walking forward across rain-soaked pavement. Purple treatment pushes the ordinary setting into the emotional world of the record while preserving its rough, unmanufactured quality. It is not meant to represent the end of his story. It captures one moment from somewhere in the middle.
That visual continues throughout the world surrounding “Journey”: streetlights reflected across wet ground, grainy film, fog, distant apartment windows and a city that feels unusually quiet. The song belongs to the scene immediately before a character realizes they are going to be okay—not because the struggle has disappeared, but because they have decided to keep going.
Listeners drawn to the vulnerability of EKKSTACY, nothing,nowhere., Re6ce and Max Fry, as well as the emotional alternative weight of Dayseeker and Citizen, will recognize the territory “Journey” explores. Vxiid, however, is using those influences to establish a world built around his own experiences with isolation, identity and recovery.
He wants listeners to leave the song feeling lighter than they did when it began.
“You can be sad, confused and still be moving forward,” vxiid says. “Sometimes you don’t realize you’re healing until you look back and notice how far you’ve traveled.”
