Succession Season 3 Review

It seems like I waited the whole pandemic for season 3 of Succession to drop and to my surprise, it finally did. HBO-Max blessed fans to end 2021 with their third installment of the highly anticipated and beloved show which features another strong season from the entire cast. When you strike gold in a tv show in the early seasons, it can often be hard to live up to the brilliance as the show progresses through the seasons. While season 3 of Succession is fantastic television, I do feel let down compared to the previous 2 seasons. Not to take away from what they did in season 3, it’s just a little more dry and not as drama-packed as the previous seasons. Now I understand that these writers know what they’re doing and I know that the payoffs in season 4 are going to be phenomenal so I can’t be too upset, but when they’ve been able to succeed at great television in the moment while building for future seasons, it’s a little disappointing when it’s not as perfect as it was.

Succession is an absurd and astonishing 8.9 of the 10 and is one of the best shows to be released this year. While we all don’t really like any of the characters on the show (especially not Cousin Gregg), I’ll be the first to give flowers to the entire cast’s performances this season. Jeremy Strong deserves TV actor of the year for his acting, especially in the last three episodes of the season. His heartfelt and tear-jerking acting to end the season only solidifies why I love his role on the show and why season three is amazing television. While it might be unfair to only compare season 3 Succession’s previous seasons, this season was slower than the two previous ones and you can argue that while  “nothing actually happened” until the last episode, Succession continues to shine in its ability to take you inside the drama of the Roy family and keep you on the edge of your couch. When it comes down to 2021 shows, season 3 of Succession is almost as good as it gets and should be on your watch list if you’ve seen the previous seasons. If you aren’t caught up, well it’s time to start binge-watching HBO’s flawless new series in Succession.
