The Harder They Fall Movie Review

Netflix isn’t playing around to end the year and is back with another action packed and original movie with “The Harder They Fall.” The cast alone makes this one worth the watch. With stars Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, RJ Cyler, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, and Deon Cole, it’s one of the most star studded movie releases of the year and is a cool experience to see all these guys on screen. If you’ve been following along with my reviews, you know I’m a sucker for Lakeith Stanfield (which is the reason I rushed to watch this one). While I recommend sitting down and investing the 2 hours into watching, the first hour starts extremely slow and is hard to fully get into. The concept is fantastic, but the film is muddled down with unimportant dialogue and below average acting. With so many big names on screen, they focused too much on giving them all proper screen time than they did properly developing the plot and characters.

“The Harder They Fall” is a lackluster 7.0 out of 10. With such big stars and an overall great concept, I was let down with the execution. I would like to see more movies and shows explore the black western story. Netflix should have made this one a short series rather than a movie so that they could have given each star their proper time to shine and would have been able to better develop the story and characters. If you have Netflix, I recommend watching, but limit your expectations and enjoy this one for what it is.
